This is an outline of the known objectives and technical considerations for the Project to ensure a common understanding of its scope and nature.
World Wide Live: WWK: 2009 “What We Know” Interactive Event
Objective:
Launch a new interactive tool to enhance social interaction with the website.
Background:
In October 2007, Angus McDonald (University of Minnesota) and colleagues published What We Know About Schizophrenia, a compendium of 23 facts about the disorder, on the Schizophrenia Research Forum website (www.schizophreniaforum.org). The compendium is interactive, and in subsequent months, other researchers propose XX modifications or additional facts to the table. Fortuitously, Rajiv Tandon (University of Florida) and colleagues published a series of articles in the journal Schizophrenia Research on the same topic. The current project seeks to synthesize and extend these two efforts.
I want to give NARSAD advance notice of an event that we are [proposing/planning] in conjunction with the International Congress on Schizophrenia Research. There are some obvious potential tie-ins for NARSAD, among them:
- 1.Featuring the event in NARSAD’s promotional materials
- 2.Interviewing panelists (perhaps a separate roundtable discussion for general readers)
- 3.hosting a follow-up session for the general public
There may be other ways that you can think about using this event. I would be happy to discuss, and I’m sure Angus would be as well.
Title Of Event:
What We Know About Schizophrenia — “WorldWide – Live”
Brief Description:
A real-time, interactive simultaneous videocast and web workshop on the “state of the evidence in schizophrenia research”; an official workshop of the International Congress on Schizophrenia Research. [any CME?]
Panelists:
- 1.Angus McDonald (University of Minnesota)
- 2.Rajiv Tandon (University of Florida)
- 3.Tyrone Cannon (University of California, Los Angeles)
- 4.Charles Schulz (University of Minnesota)
- 5.Henry Nasrallah (University of Cincinnati)
Sponsors:
- 1.International Congress on Schizophrenia Research
- 2.NARSAD
- 3.Schizophrenia Research Forum
Abstract:
This Web Video Cast has been [proposed/accepted] as an official workshop at the 2009 International Congress on Schizophrenia Research in San Diego. The discussion will be broadcast live on the Web on the Schizophrenia Research Forum, and researchers will be able to participate around the world by submitting running commentary on a special wiki page created for the event. Moderators will pull questions from the Web commentary to pose to the panelists.
Detailed Description:
In preparation for the workshop in San Diego, McDonald and Tandon will generate a joint list of schizophrenia facts to be discussed (see fig. E). These will be posted in the Schizophrenia Research Forum in advance. At the workshop in San Diego, the panelists will give short talks on the list (see fig. A). These talks will be video cast live on the Schizophrenia Research Forum, which will simultaneously maintain a live discussion “chat,” (see fig. b & fig. c) wherein researchers in the workshop room and worldwide will respond to the schizophrenia facts list, as well as the speakers’ comments.
